Klingenthal: Martin Hamann and Selina Freitag secure German championship title

The German Ski Jumping Championships were held in Klingenthal last weekend (04.11./05.11.2023). Titles were awarded in both the individual and team jumping.

Saturday – Individual jumping

On the large hill in Vogtland, the new German individual champions were determined in two rounds on Saturday.

In the men's competition, Martin Hamann from SG Nickelhütte Aue surprisingly took the lead with jumps of 137 meters and won with a total of 294.9 points ahead of Stephan Leyhe (293.1 points) and Philipp Raimund (289.3 points). Defending champion Andreas Wellinger, who was leading after the first round, finished fourth. For the 26-year-old Hamann, it is the first German championship title of his career.

Selina Freitag (WSC Erzgebirge Oberwiesenthal; 295.5 points) successfully defended her German championship title from last year and secured gold ahead of Katharina Schmid (284.3 points) and Anna Ruprecht (244.3 points).

Sunday - Team jumping

The newly crowned German champions didn't have much time to celebrate, as the team jumping competitions were already scheduled for the following day.

Selina Freitag triumphed as she had the day before and secured the team jumping championship title for the Saxony Ski Association together with Pia Lilian Kübler. Second place went to Katharina Schmid and Joanna Eberle from the Bavarian Ski Association, third place to Agnes Reisch and Anna Rupprecht from the Baden-Württemberg Ski Association.

In the men's event, the two teams from Bavaria came out on top: the quartet of Andreas Wellinger, Pius Paschke, Karl Geiger and Philipp Raimund secured the German championship title. Constantin Schmid, Simon Steinbeißer, guest jumper Kaimar Vagul (Estonia) and Markus Eisenbichler came second. Third place went to the team from the Saxony Ski Association (Adrian Tittel, Felix Frischmann, Eric Hoyer, Martin Hamann).

To the official results

Immediately after the title competitions, national coach Stefan Horngacher announced his line-up for the first two World Cup competitions in Ruka (November 24-26) and Lillehammer (December 1-3). Horngacher nominated the sextet Martin Hamann, Stephan Leyhe, Philipp Raimund, Andreas Wellinger, Karl Geiger and Pius Paschke. Markus Eisenbichler and Constantin Schmid are missing.
