Raw-Air in Lillehammer: Eisenbichler with hill record
Tuesday - Individual Jumping
With only three placings in the top-15 the DSV ski jumpers could not quite follow up their performances from Oslo at the Raw Air event in Lillehammer. Andreas Wellinger already had a bad day in the qualification and could not qualify for the competition with just 104 meters.
The best German ski jumper on tuesday was once again Karl Geiger. After the first round the athlete from Oberstdorf was only in tenth place, but he fought his way to the podium with a strong second jump. In the end he was only 1.9 points short of a place on the podium.
There the Austrians Manuel Fettner (3rd) and Stefan Kraft (2nd) lined up behind the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud (1st). This means that the leader in the overall World Cup also regains the lead in the Raw Air overall standings.
Thursday - Individual jumping
For the DSV ski jumpers it didn't go much better on Thursday. Karl Geiger and Andreas Wellinger could not qualify for the final jumps with ranks 37 and 42 in the first round. Only Markus Eisenbichler convinced with 136 meters and finished fourth.
In the second round, the athlete from Siegsdorf even managed to set a jumping record with a fabulous distance of 146 meters. Due to unclean landing and corresponding point deductions Eisenbichler still missed the podium in the end and finished fourth.
The victory went to Dawid Kubacki from Poland, who passed his competitors with a strong second round (138.5 meters). Second went to Anze Lanisek from Poland. With 1.2 points ahead of Markus Eisenbichler, Daniel Tschofenig from Austria completed the podium.
With Philipp Raimund (15th) and Justin Lisso (18th) only two more Germans finished among the top-20. For the DSV ski jumpers the Raw-Air competition in Lillehammer therefore ends with mixed feelings.
