Kraft wins overall World Cup in Planica

Eisenbichler (GER) with a new German record. Poland wins the Nations Cup.

At the start of the season's final in Planica, once again Stefan Kraft (AUT) was too strong for Andreas Wellinger (GER) and Markus Eisenbichler. With two flights to 235 meters, Wellinger was overall eight meters behind Kraft (243 and 240.5 meters). The third place of Eisenbichler was the third podium position of his career.

One day later, the 25-year-old Eisenbichler showed how well he gets along in Planica. With 248 meters in the trial heat he set a new German record.

In the afternoon, the man from Siegsdorf didn’t reach more than 230 meters. Nevertheless, the quartet with Eisenbichler, Andreas Wellinger, Richard Freitag and Karl Geiger (1502.6 points) reached the second place. Norway secured the win ahead of Austria.

On Sunday, Kraft finally put on the crown. With a flight on exactly 250 meters Stefan Kraft secured the overall World Cup and the World Cup in Ski flying. The second heat was cancelled due to unsafe conditions. With 8.1 points the 23-year-old Pongauer won ahead of Wellinger and the Japanese Noriaki Kasai.

In the overall World Cup, he won against Kamil Stoch, who was at the end 141 points behind and finished second. Daniel Andre Tande completed the podium, Wellinger had to be content with the fourth place.

Stoch could cheer over the win in the Nations Cup. Poland beat Austria in the team competition, while Germany finished third.
