A win without joy

Team Germany have won the team competion of Zakopane without being able to celebrate.

The reason for this was the fall that David Siegel had during his second jump, instantly grabbing his knee. He was picked up by paramedics and driven to the hospital shortly afterwards.

At this moment of the competition team Germany had been in front with so many points that Stephan Leyhe could still secure the win with his final jump. Leyhe, Eisenbichler and Geiger took their mate's skis to the podium and let the winner's ceremony pass them by without joy. The next morning when Siegel was transferred to Germany for the diagnosis the complete team Germany surprised him, waving him goodbye. The 22 year old was on Monday diagnosed with a cruciate ligament rupture meaning he will miss the rest of the season.

Maybe the athletes were just too shaken to show their top performances at the single competition later that day. Winner of the day was Stefan Kraft, with Robert Johansson and Yukiya Sato completing the podium. Stephan Leyhe landed on seventh rank, all the other Germans clearly missed the top10.
