German jumpers dominate World Cup in Russia

Freitag and Wellinger win in Nischni Tagil. Double lead in the overall World Cup for Germany.

This Ski Jumping season is only three weeks old, but it's already obvious that the Germans have the strongest team they had in a long time. On Saturday Richard Freitag managed to win his sixth World Cup in his career. Despite two record jumps Daniel Andre Tande and Johann Andre Forfang from Norway had to live with the second and third places. Both were able to set a new hill record. First Tande with 141 meters and then Forfang with half a meter more.

On Sunday, only Wellinger was better than Freitag. Two confident jumps earned the 22-year-old a clear lead over his teammate and Austria's Stefan Kraft. It would not have taken much to have full German representation on the podium too with Markus Eisenbichler in fourth, only 0.3 points behind Kraft.

Due to the strong results, Freitag takes the lead in the overall World Cup. With 270 points he leads the standings ahead of Wellinger (239) and Tande (220).
