Raimund best German athlete in qualification
From a German point of view, the qualification on the Große Olympiaschanze was a positive one. In front of an enthusiastic crowd, Philipp Raimund delivered the strongest performance for the German Ski Association team. With a jump of 135 meters, he claimed an excellent fifth place and showed his good form at the turn of the year.
Felix Hoffmann also put in a solid performance. The third-place finisher from the opening competition in Oberstdorf jumped 134 meters in qualification and finished eighth. He once again proved his competition strength, even though he had achieved the longest jump during training earlier.
Qualifying was especially important for Andreas Wellinger and Karl Geiger. Both athletes had struggled with inconsistent results in recent weeks, but handled the qualification with confidence. Wellinger finished 27th, while Geiger placed 31st. As a result, both will compete in the knockout round at the New Year’s event.
From the national group, Ben Bayer also managed to qualify for the competition. Unfortunately, Constantin Schmid, Luca Roth, and Max Unglaube missed the cut and will not take part in the New Year’s Ski Jumping event.
In the knockout format of the New Year’s Ski Jumping event, the German athletes will face the following duels:
- Andreas Wellinger vs. Robin Pedersen (Norway)
- Felix Hoffmann vs. Fatih Arda Ipcioglu (Türkiye)
- Pius Paschke vs. Karl Geiger
- Ben Bayer vs. Sandro Hauswirth (Switzerland)
The qualification was won by Domen Prevc. The Slovenian claimed victory with a jump of 139.5 meters and a total of 150.6 points, ahead of Jan Hörl and Stephan Embacher. Embacher also provided a special highlight by setting a new hill record of 145.5 meters on the Große Olympiaschanze.
