Raimund finishes sixth in the qualification in Bischofshofen

As in Innsbruck, all German ski jumpers qualified for tomorrow’s competition at the Paul Ausserleitner Hill in Bischofshofen. The best German athlete was Philipp Raimund, who finished sixth.

In freezing temperatures below zero, the final qualification of the Four Hills Tournament took place in Bischofshofen. Philipp Raimund achieved the best result for the German team. The athlete from Oberstdorf once again showed his consistent form. His jump of 135 metres earned him 145.2 points, sixth place and a knockout duel against Switzerland’s Felix Trunz.

Felix Hoffmann jumped 128.5 metres and scored 136.7 points, finishing eleventh in qualification. As a result, he will face Finland’s Antti Aalto in tomorrow’s competition. The jumper from Goldlauter-Heidersbach still has good chances of achieving a strong overall result in the Four Hills Tournament.

Andreas Wellinger reached a distance of 127.5 metres and placed 23rd. His opponent in the knockout round will be Slovenia’s Rok Oblak. Wellinger summed up his day by saying:
“Yesterday was extremely frustrating because I missed the landing in the second round, which hardly ever happens to me. But today I managed to continue where I left off in Innsbruck. All three jumps were at a solid level, especially the first training jump and now the qualification.”

Two places behind him was Pius Paschke. The German jumper scored 122.2 points with a jump of 126.5 metres and finished 25th. His opponent in tomorrow’s knockout competition will be Japan’s Yukiya Sato.

Karl Geiger struggled a little more in the qualification, but managed to qualify by finishing 44th with 107.7 points. “Today was a tough day for me. Yesterday went quite okay, but of course I was still mentally disappointed because I didn’t make the second round. Basically, I was on the right track, but today it was hard to build on that. I did improve, but I’m not completely satisfied,” Geiger said. Tomorrow, he will compete against Norway’s Halvor Egner Granerud.

The longest jump of the day was delivered by overall leader Domen Prevc, who jumped 140 metres. With 159.2 points, he won the qualification ahead of Austria’s Stephan Embacher (153.0 points) and Jan Hörl (149.9 points).
