Wellinger sweeps the board in Lahti

Kraft (AUT) too strong at the World Championships. The German team a victim of the wind.

Andreas Wellinger proved his strong form this winter at the World Championships in Lahti (Finland). With two silver medals in individual competition and an additional gold in the mixed team event, the 21-year-old was the most successful German ski jumper of the World Championships.

Wellinger had to surrender in the men’s individual competition on the normal hill. Only 2.1 points were missing for the gold medal, which the Austrian Stefan Kraft secured.

One day later, Wellinger had the opportunity to climb to the top of the podium. In conjunction with the double world champion Carina Vogt, as well as Svenja Würth and Markus Eisenbichler, the German quartet fulfilled their role as favourites by winning the mixed team normal hill event.

Also on the big hill there was the two-man battle between Wellinger and Kraft. And again the Austrian won. Wellinger finished second, and Poland's Piotr Zyla took the bronze.

The Polish team also celebrated at the end of the World Championships. In the team competition the Poles defied the changing wind conditions and won the gold medal with a total of 1104.2 points, ahead of Norway (1078.5 points) and Austria (1068.9 points).
