Lahti: Karl Geiger jumps on the podium / DSV team with place 5
Saturday - Team Jumping
In the team event in Lahti the ÖSV quartet flew away from everyone and secured victory as in Zakapone. Michael Hayböck, Jan Hörl, Daniel Tschofenig and Stefan Kraft dominated the competition and won with 1057.3 points. Second and third place went to Slovenia (1031.1 points) and Poland (1022.3 points).
The competition was not as successful for the DSV jumpers. The quartet of Andreas Wellinger, Markus Eisenbichler, Karl Geiger and team debutant Felix Hoffmann only reached fifth place with 1001.9 points. National coach Stefan Horngacher was only satisfied with the debutant, "he had a good performance". Otherwise, his team "made too many mistakes," Horngacher said in the ZDF interview.
Sunday - Individual Jumping
From DSV's point of view there was more positive news on Sunday in the individual competition. With a great jump over 133 meters Karl Geiger secured third place. Due to difficult wind conditions, the first round dragged on for almost two hours, which is why the competition ended before the second jump.
The best jump of the day was achieved by Ryoyu Kobayashi, who secured first place with 136.5 meters (145.9 points). With 130 meters and 4.1 points less than the Japanese, Stefan Kraft took second place.
Outside of the podium finish for Karl Geiger, however, the individual jumping was not entirely satisfactory for the DSV jumpers. Markus Eisenbichler with rank 13 and Andreas Wellinger with rank 34 remained far below their possibilities. Team debutant from the previous day - Felix Hoffmann - finished in 27th place.
At the end of the season the team will go to Planica where there will be two individual jumping events (Friday and Sunday) as well as a team event (Saturday) and where the DSV jumpers could celebrate a conciliatory end.
