Ruka: Successful World Cup opening for the DSV eagles

At the start of the World Cup in Ruka (November 24-26), the German team presented itself in great form and impressed with three podium finishes and other top placings.

Friday - Qualification

The DSV eagles were already able to set the first exclamation marks in the qualification for the World Cup competition on Saturday. Andreas Wellinger achieved the highest score of the day (154.2 points) and was the winner of the qualification. With Stephan Leyhe (third place), Philipp Raimund (sixth place) and Karl Geiger (seventh place), another three jumpers made it into the top ten.

Saturday - Individual jumping

The positive trend of the qualification continued in the competition. After the first round, the German jumpers Andreas Wellinger, Martin Hamann, Pius Paschke and Philipp Raimund took second, third, fourth and fifth place. Only Austria's Stefan Kraft was better than the DSV quartet. Kraft also dominated the second round. He won the opening round of the World Cup with a total of 326.2 points.

Pius Paschke took a sensational second place (315.6 points), who stood on the podium of a World Cup for the first time in his career. Stephan Leyhe completed the Germans' success with a strong third place (313.2 points).

Overall it was an impressive team performance: all six jumpers of the DSV team were among the best twelve of the competition.

Sunday - Individual jumping 

The German ski jumpers also impressed at the second World Cup competition in Ruka: Andreas Wellinger took third place with jumps of 143.5 and 146.0 meters and was only beaten by Stefan Kraft, who also excelled on Sunday, and his compatriot Jan Hörl. 
Pius Paschke and Stephan Leyhe once again achieved top placings and finished fourth and fifth. Karl Geiger finished ninth, Philipp Raimund fourteenth and Martin Hamann nineteenth.  

The strong performances of all the German jumpers are very positive for the rest of the World Cup season. Next weekend (December 2nd/3rd) in Lillehammer/Norway there is already a chance for more medals.
