Sapporo: Third place for Wellinger

Andreas Wellinger achieves third place in the first of two World Cup competitions. There were no further German top ten finishes.

After their trip to the USA last weekend, the six nominated DSV eagles Karl Geiger, Felix Hoffmann, Stephan Leyhe, Pius Paschke, Philipp Raimund and Andreas Wellinger traveled to Japan, where two qualifications and two individual competitions awaited them.
All of the German jumpers managed to qualify in the qualification on Friday. The best German after his successful last weekend was Philipp Raimund in third place.

Saturday - Individual jumping

Andreas Wellinger was once again able to celebrate a podium finish in the individual competition. After fourth place in the first round, he then jumped to third place in the second round. This was Wellinger's tenth podium finish of the season. He was once again beaten by Austria's Stefan Kraft, who finished in first place, and Japan's Ryōyū Kobayashi.

The other results of the DSV eagles:
Stephan Leyhe (16th place)
Philipp Raimund (21st place)
Karl Geiger (22nd place)
Felix Hoffmann (27th place)
Pius Paschke (34th place)

Sunday - Individual competition

Karl Geiger surprisingly won the qualification for the second individual competition in Sapporo. In the competition, however, it was not enough for a top placing. Geiger finished in twelfth place as the best German. Andreas Wellinger finished in 16th place ahead of Philipp Raimund (17th place) and Felix Hoffmann (19th place). Stephan Leyhe and Pius Paschke were unable to qualify for the second round and finished in 33rd and 34th place respectively.
Slovenian Domen Prevc secured victory ahead of Japan's Ryōyū Kobayashi and Norway's Kristoffer Eriksen Sundal.

Next weekend (February 22-25), the World Cup will once again be taking place in front of a German audience: A super team competition and two individual ski flying competitions will be held in Oberstdorf.
