Four Hills Tournament opener in Oberstdorf
Qualification: The Four Hills Tournament has started into its anniversary edition. In heavy rain and changing wind conditions Ryoyu Kobayashi did very well and secured the first 3,200 Swiss francs for the qualification victory. Karl Geiger from Oberstdorf, who is considered the favorite with the Japanese, also did well and jumped into 2nd place. Behind them, the Norwegians Halvor Egner Granerud and Johann Forfang shared 3rd place. The placing of the DSV eagle Severin Freund (9th), who is back in the World Cup circus after a break, was especially happy.
Competition: The rain continues. Also on the day of the competition the continuous rain does not let up. According to athletes, however, no obstacle to long jumps. This is proven by Ryoyu Kobayashi, who jumps the best distance of the day with 141 meters (hill record 143.5 meters) and thus also takes the first victory of the 70th Four Hills Tournament. Halvor Egner Granerud and teammate Robert Johansson are close behind in 2nd and 3rd place. Best German is Karl Geiger on 5th place, Markus Eisenbichler jumps on 7th place and Stephan Leyhe completes the good DSV result with 9th place.
