Four Hills: Wellinger wins at the opening
The DSV-eagle could not have had a better start to the tournament: With his victory in Oberstdorf, he aroused the euphoria of the fans, who had not seen a German winner since Sven Hannawald in 2002.
The fans in Oberstdorf once again created a breathtaking atmosphere. A total of 25,500 spectators were able to enjoy an exciting competition.
The five German jumpers Karl Geiger, Pius Paschke, Stephan Leyhe, Philipp Raimund and Andreas Wellinger won their knockout duels and qualified for the second round.
Andreas Wellinger, the best German jumper, took the lead after the first jump. The "1" in front of his name also lit up after the final round. This is Wellinger's first victory at the Four Hills Tournament and his sixth World Cup win overall.
The podium was completed by Japan's Ryōyū Kobayashi and Austria's Stefan Kraft, who continues to lead the overall World Cup rankings.
Philipp Raimund finished in sixth place with two strong jumps, Karl Geiger in seventh place. Pius Paschke (11th place) just missed out on the top 10. Stehphan Leyhe came 29th.
The next stop in the Four Hills Tournament is now Garmisch-Partenkirchen! We look forward to welcoming you at the qualification on 31.12.2023 and the traditional New Year's ski jumping on 01.01.2024!
