Geiger, Leyhe and Schmid with top performances in Rasnov

The ski jumping weekend in Rasnov, Romania, could hardly have gone better for the German jumpers. On Friday Karl Geiger won ahead of the second placed Stephan Leyhe and Stefan Kraft and on Saturday both, Karl Geiger and Constantin Schmid jumped onto the podium. Another ray of hope for the German athletes: Severin Freund returned to the Ski Jumping World Cup after a long injury break and even reached the final round on Saturday.

Geiger is currently difficult to beat on the normal hill. With two very good jumps of 100. 0 meters he prevailed on Friday against the strong Stephan Leyhe (99. 0 and 97. 5 meters) and Stefan Kraft (98. 0 and 97. 5 meters). The DSV eagles Pius Pachke, Markus Eisenbichler and Constantin Schmid also showed a good performance with placements 10, 11 and 15.

The following day there were two German podium placements again. In the first run three new ski jump records were set on the Trambulina Valea Cărbunării. Gregor Schlierenzauer as well as the winner Stefan Kraft and the third placed Constantin Schmid jumped 103. 0 meters. Also in the second run Schmid delivered a good jump to 95. 5 meters and could celebrate his first podium place in a World Cup. Karl Geiger also reached the podium, with two good jumps of 99. 5 and 96. 0 meters and was able to finish 2nd. In the second place, the team will be connected to the overall World Cup leader Stefan Kraft. Although he won the World Cup in Rasnov, the race for the big crystal ball remains open. Next weekend Geiger can use his chance in Lathi to further reduce the gap to Kraft. It remains exciting!
