Klingenthal: Outstanding Karl Geiger wins both World Cup competitions
Friday - Qualification
In the qualification on the normal hill in Klingenthal, other nations were at the top this time. Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi won ahead of Austria's Stefan Kraft and Norway's Johann André Forfang. The best German was Andreas Wellinger (7th place).
Saturday - Individual jumping
While it was not enough for a place in the top three in the qualification, one person in particular excelled in the competition: Karl Geiger.
The man from Oberstdorf dominated both rounds and secured his 14th World Cup victory with a total of 274.7 points. In the end, he was just ahead of the overall leader Stefan Kraft (273.5 points). Third place went to the previous day's qualification winner, Ryoyu Kobayashi (270.7 points).
They were followed by Andreas Wellinger and Pius Paschke in fourth and fifth place with equally strong performances. Stephan Leyhe finished 14th and Martin Hamann 29th.
Philipp Raimund unfortunately had to cancel his start due to illness.
While Karl Geiger triumphed in Klingenthal, another German athlete, Luca Roth, finished in first place at the Continental Cup in Lillehammer.
Sunday - individual jumping
The German fans in Klingenthal also had plenty to cheer about in the second World Cup competition. Karl Geiger confirmed his strong jumps from the previous day and secured another World Cup victory.
Andreas Wellinger also flew onto the podium alongside Geiger. He finished third behind Switzerland's Gregor Deschwanden.
Pius Paschke (eighth place) and Stephan Leyhe (ninth place) were two more DSV eagles in the top 10, while Martin Hamann finished in 27th place.
The DSV jumpers are still in impressive form shortly before the start of the Four Hills Tournament and the New Year's Ski Jumping.
Stefan Kraft continues to lead the overall World Cup rankings. Immediately behind him are the three Germans Andreas Wellinger, Karl Geiger and Pius Paschke. Next weekend (December 15-17), the World Cup will take place in Engelberg, Switzerland. Here, too, it will be interesting to see how the DSV eagles perform.
