Willingen: Wellinger wins in front of home crowd

Andreas Wellinger defies the difficult weather conditions in Willingen and secures his second World Cup victory of the 2023/24 season.

Saturday - Individual jumping

All six DSV eagles (Karl Geiger, Felix Hoffmann, Stephan Leyhe, Pius Paschke, Philipp Raimund and Andreas Wellinger) qualified for the individual competition on Saturday.
On the day of the competition, however, only Andreas Wellinger and Pius Paschke made it into the second round. For both jumpers, it was not enough for a place in the top ten. Andreas Wellinger finished 17th, Pius Paschke 26th.
The victory was secured by Norway's Johann André Forfang, who also set a new hill record (155.5 meters).

German ski jumper Katharina Schmid, on the other hand, had reason to celebrate. She took third place in the women's World Cup, which was also held in Willingen.

Sunday - Individual jumping

The second day of competition in Willingen was characterized by rain and wind, so it was initially unclear whether there would be a second round. This eventually took place, but once again without Karl Geiger and Felix Hoffmann, who were unable to qualify for the second round.

The best German after the first round was Andreas Wellinger in seventh place. His jump to 149.0 meters in the second round meant first place in the end and his second World Cup victory this season.
Stephan Leyhe came eleventh. Pius Paschke and Philipp Raimund finished in 25th and 26th place respectively.

To the official final result

The season continues next weekend (February 09 to 11). Two individual competitions and two super team competitions are on the program in Lake Placid (USA).
